70MPH cab ride on Nickel Plate Road no. 765

This exclusive footage from our one-day excursion between Glen of North Glenview, Illinois and Janesville, Wisconsin was originally streamed live on Facebook in 2016. The 765 made history topping over 70MPH on this trip.

The finely maintained railroad and tight commuter railroad schedule necessitated that the 765 and her crew keep the train moving. As the 765 headed home over Metra’s Milwaukee District North line, it reached speeds of over 70MPH.

“The Varsity” originally ran between Chicago and Madison, Wisconsin until 1971. The 765’s June 12th excursion was  the first by a steam locomotive over portions of the route since 1953.

Footage compliant with 49 CFR Part 220 Subpart C and approved by the host railroad.
