LAST WEEKENDS SHOP ACTIVITY
765 returned to the shop on Tuesday May 24th. We let the engine cool down for a couple of days then drained the water from it on Thursday. Since then, we have fixed the ash pan washer line. It should no longer leak when in use. The shaft that connects the blower to the cab valve has been taken apart to further inspect the “U” joints one of which had to be hastily repaired when it broke at CVSR. It appears the shaft is in fairly good shape other than the failed “U” joint. John Jaress and I will take a closer look this coming weekend to make sure there are no other issues and determine how best to make the temporary fix permanent.
UPCOMING ACTIVITIES
Quite a bit of work is needed between now and firing up the locomotive. A boiler wash is scheduled for this coming weekend. The ash needs to be dumped from the firebox and ash pan. Once that is done we need to inspect the grate shaking mechanism and replace worn pins and cotters. Washing the locomotive cleaning the rods and inspecting for leaks and worn parts will be on going between now and the end of June.
SAFETY SENSE
A thought to remember on this Memorial Day weekend…
- Thanksgiving is a day when we pause to give thanks for the things we have.
- Memorial Day is a day we pause to give thanks to the People who fought for the things we have.
