LAST WEEKENDS SHOP ACTIVITY
Friday, the tender was started to fill with water. By Sunday, the water was above the former leaks and no leakage was noted so Sarah and I began to reinstall the slope sheet. Saturday while we waited for water to fill up the tank George Butzin, Mathew, John Jaress, and Carl Lyvers partook of some on site safety training put on be Rich Brinkley. We finished off the day with topping off the sand in the sand dome of the 765 assisted by Dave Cox. Just under a ton and a half of sand was added to the dome. In addition, dirt was swept up and some jacket bands were readjusted. Earlier in the week Dave was able to complete thee fix of steering on the Yale forklift and fixing the fuel leak on the 701’s generator and partially fixing the loose fan belt problem. Sarah was able to finish the belt tightening projects with the use of some ratchet straps. George and I finished by cleaning the air filters.
UPCOMING ACTIVITIES
Over the next few weeks, I hope to do a rinse of the boiler interior and other maintenance work on the 765’s boiler. This should speed and improve the boiler wash which is planned for the week after the open house allowing us to complete the boiler wash in an expeditious manner in the time available. At some point I hope to do some work on the paint splatters on the tank.
SAFETY SENSE
Driving with Sun Glare…
This time of year brings a lot of sun all day long. Just after sunrise and before sunset the sun can shine directly into drivers’ eyes, making it harder to see the road ahead and any potential hazards. When you encounter sun glare, slow down and use extra caution. AAA offers the following tips when driving with sun glare.
o Leave more following room between you and the care ahead because when the sun is in your eyes it can be hard to see what is ahead.
o Drive with your headlights on to increase visibility to other drivers.
o Keep your windshield clean, inside, and out.
o Utilize your sun visor to block out the sun.
o Check windshield for pitting and cracks.
o Avoid storing papers or other items on dashboard.
Invest in polarized sunglasses which reduce glare.
