LAST WEEKENDS SHOP ACTIVITY
Several projects were completed this week. The boiler was filled and treated with chemical, it should be ready to go. We had a bunch of wood we needed to get rid of, so we put that in the firebox. Saturday, we loaded coal in the tender and followed up with some general maintenance project. Sunday, Brody got the area on the left side under the coal bunker painted. At last we had everything working and the painting went well. Other work was done on the Wabash caboose which is coming along nicely under the direction of DJ and quality work by Rich W. Work proceeded on the 358 as well. Rick and Bill brought out the sales department supplies while Mr. Homco marked out the spot for the tent and some of the vendor spaces. An effort was made to do some shop straightening prior to the Autumn Festival event.
UPCOMING ACTIVITIES
The week will be devoted to getting the 765 ready for the steam test on the first of October. We will be firing up the engine on Wednesday to so the test can proceed on Thursday morning. Work on all the other projects around the shop will be underway as well. Joe sent out a list of crew members scheduled to work on the engine this weekend. If you did not see it, check your SPAM folder as DJ found the list in his.
SAFETY SENSE
COVID-19 Plan of Action !
- All building occupants are expected wear a mask and provide their own face covering when working in groups not able to maintain at least 6 feet of distance. (some masks are available at the shop)
- A pre-job briefing will be held each morning on how to limit the spread of the Corona virus.
- Specific emphasis on 6’ social / physical distancing (where possible)
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and practice good personal hygiene habits.(soap and water provided)
- The Society will provide disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer in the shop.(also located on the counter by the sink)
- We are encouraging volunteers to stay home if they are sick. Must be fever free (less than 100.4 degrees) for 24 hours without medication before coming to the shop or other Society functions.(actually, we are insisting you not show up if sick, period)
- The shop will remain closed to public visitors. Properly attired visitors are permitted in the shop. Social distancing is required.
Further we are constantly monitoring the CDC and the State of Indiana for updates regarding preventative measures to communicate to our volunteers.
We continue to ask everyone to do their part. The best line of defense for protecting your health, and the health of those around you, is to practice good personal hygiene.
