LAST WEEKENDS SHOP ACTIVITY
Last week started with a failure to paint the inside of the tender due to equipment problems. Brody did manage to hand paint several panels. Friday Jim Donohue added some paint to the sides of the firebox making them look good. Saturday saw an active crew with several projects moving ahead. The steam dome was reapplied, wash out plugs were tightened, Tender sumps had the screens installed and bottoms bolted in place, We began filling the Auxiliary tank with water and the two drain plugs in the tender were reinstalled. Sunday, Jim treated most of the untreated sheets in the tank with Ospho while I worked on the airless paint system. I believe I have the bugs worked out of it. Of course, I have thought that before. I am hoping to make a good effort on Tuesday to apply the paint we have to the inside of the tank with Brody’s help. Getting the painting complete is going to be a tight timewise. Otherwise the effort is moving along nicely, and we only need coal and water to be able to fire up the engine for the Test fire on October 1st.
UPCOMING ACTIVITIES
Putting more paint in the tender is high on the list of projects we hope to accomplish during the week. Tentatively we have scheduled Saturday to load coal. There are many projects around the shop and grounds that need attention. Hope you can spend some time getting things ready to go.

COVID-19 Plan of Action !
- All building occupants are expected wear a mask and provide their own face covering when working in groups not able to maintain at least 6 feet of distance. (some masks are available at the shop)
- A pre-job briefing will be held each morning on how to limit the spread of the Corona virus.
- Specific emphasis on 6’ social / physical distancing (where possible)
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and practice good personal hygiene habits.(soap and water provided)
- The Society will provide disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer in the shop.(also located on the counter by the sink)
- We are encouraging volunteers to stay home if they are sick. Must be fever free (less than 100.4 degrees) for 24 hours without medication before coming to the shop or other Society functions.(actually, we are insisting you not show up if sick, period)
- The shop will remain closed to public visitors. Properly attired visitors are permitted in the shop. Social distancing is required.
Further we are constantly monitoring the CDC and the State of Indiana for updates regarding preventative measures to communicate to our volunteers.
We continue to ask everyone to do their part. The best line of defense for protecting your health, and the health of those around you, is to practice good personal hygiene.
