LAST WEEKENDS SHOP ACTIVITY
Monday, I started out late and spent the time I had cleaning off the center section of the tender swash plates immediately behind the coal bunker. It being hot and late I quit and went home. I believe there to be one more section that appears partially done and then several partial sections. Some areas in the frame also need to be scaled.
Wednesday I showed up late and mowed grass. Brody came later and worked on the motorcar and assisted with getting some junk out of the yard
Friday Jim showed up to work on the tender. Much scaling was done throughout the weekend. Saturday a new volunteer Craig showed up and spent many quality hours scaling away along with Jim. Austin took apart cleaned and lapped in the injector boiler check valve.
Sunday Jim continued on with scaling in the morning. I continued with some scaling and application of Ospho in the afternoon.
UPCOMING ACTIVITIES
Continued work on the tender is needed. My hope is I can start painting this week. Some floor areas and some swash plates need scaling. In keeping up with the hydrostatic preparations we need to get the blow down valves lapped to be sure they seal properly.
SAFETY SENSE
Carl Lyvers e-mailed me regarding the 534. His message included a note he was currently working in a Hospital COVID ward in Tucson and recommended that I keep wearing my face mask. With cases in Indiana soaring in the last few days I had already decided to renew my efforts. The shop COVID-19 plan is still in effect. In case you have forgotten it, the plan follows:

- All building occupants are expected wear a mask and provide their own face protection. (some masks are available at the shop)
- A pre-job briefing will be held each morning on how to limit the spread of the Corona virus.
- Specific emphasis on 6’ social / physical distancing (where possible)
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and practice good personal hygiene habits. (soap and water provided)
- The Society will provide disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer in the shop. (also located on the counter by the sink)
- We are encouraging volunteers to stay home if they are sick. Must be fever free (less than 100.4 degrees) for 24 hours without medication before coming to the shop or other Society functions. (actually, we are insisting you not show up if sick, period)
- The shop will remain closed to public visitors.
Further we are constantly monitoring the CDC and the State of Indiana for updates regarding preventative measures to communicate to our volunteers.
We continue to ask everyone to do their part. The best line of defense for protecting your health, and the health of those around you, is to practice good personal hygiene.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we all strive to keep our employees and communities safe and healthy. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you informed as we move forward.
