LAST WEEKENDS SHOP ACTIVITY
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday all that I got done was to replumb, again, the new air compressor. Once again it appears to be an outstanding job of plumbing that only leaks a little. Some cleaning and sorting around the shop pretty much finished out those days. Friday, we fixed a few more leaks, while Jim and Sarah worked on tender scaling. Saturday Jim scaled more areas with an assist at sweeping up debris by Brody. Earlier Brody went over the firebox looking for undrilled tell tales. He drilled out those he found and promises me there are no more to find. Sunday Jim did some more sweeping and scaling. I put together supplies for painting the inside of the tank once we get it clean. I hope to go in tomorrow and assess the situation as well as prepping the finished areas for paint.
UPCOMING ACTIVITIES
Through the week I hope to be prepping the tank interior for painting next week. We will be trimming and driving the staybolts we installed earlier, this coming weekend. I should be ready to start applying paint to the interior of the tank following this week. Through the coming week I hope to prep things so we can start the painting of the tank interior. Please feel free to join the fun. I can pretty much guarantee social distancing when in the tender.
SAFETY SENSE
Once again here are the shop work rules. Following them protects yourself and others. Not following them at the shop and in the rest of your life will lead to runaway infections and future restrictions and closings. Its happening in other areas right now and there is no reason to think we are immune.

As the impact from the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues, we wanted to reach out and share the steps that we are taking to prevent the spread of this virus. Our highest priority is to keep our volunteers and visitors protected.
In response to the evolving spread of COVID-19 as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society has developed the following Plan of Action for our restoration shop. This plan requires a collaborative effort by all volunteers to help minimize the spread of COVID-19.
COVID-19 Plan of Action !
- All building occupants are expected wear a mask and provide their own face protection. (some masks are available at the shop)
- A pre-job briefing will be held each morning on how to limit the spread of the Corona virus.
- Specific emphasis on 6’ social / physical distancing (where possible)
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and practice good personal hygiene habits. (soap and water provided)
- The Society will provide disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer in the shop. (also located on the counter by the sink)
- We are encouraging volunteers to stay home if they are sick. Must be fever free (less than 100.4 degrees) for 24 hours without medication before coming to the shop or other Society functions. (actually, we are insisting you not show up if sick, period)
- The shop will remain closed to public visitors.
Further we are constantly monitoring the CDC and the State of Indiana for updates regarding preventative measures to communicate to our volunteers.
We continue to ask everyone to do their part. The best line of defense for protecting your health, and the health of those around you, is to practice good personal hygiene.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we all strive to keep our employees and communities safe and healthy. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you informed as we move forward.
