LAST WEEKENDS SHOP ACTIVITY

Monday, I spent some time picking up some laminated wood beams to be used for the end of the caboose overhang.  Later Sarah did some needle gunning of the tender and sweeping up of rust. Tuesday, I spent the day cleaning out my Bass Lake house with Sarah’s help.  After returning to New Haven we decided, in honor of it being a nice day, that we would get the Amtrak cars we had stored on the Casad office track out of the way of new business they had, moving them to our new shop lead. Some additional time was spent on cleaning out the vacuum from the previous days adventures. Thursday, I spent some time working on the caboose.  Friday Jim Donohue and Sara stopped by for more needle gunning fun in the tender.  The water legs are beginning to look pretty good, though I am told there are some hidden rust areas.  Saturday was more of the same in the tender while Joe and I worked on various projects mostly the Wabash cabooses west end. Sunday included more needle scaling and when that got dull we put a few boards on the Wabash Caboose.

UPCOMING ACTIVITIES

Pretty much a broken record here with more scaling in the tender planned. I don’t expect much in the way of crew during the virus restrictions so these reports may get a bit repetitive.

SAFETY SENSE

Most typical safety hazards can be seen, touched, heard or smelled. We are now presented with an extremely serious virus, COVID-19, which does not display any of the ‘typical’ safety hazard aspects and, for which, there isn’t a vaccine.  Consequently, everyone’s behavior must follow that recommended by the Health Care Professionals in order to prevent one from contracting the virus.

The following recommended actions will help protect one from contracting or spreading the virus to others….

  • Wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds with soap and water or alcohol based hand rub
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a disposal tissue, not a reusable handkerchief, or flexed elbow when you cough or sneeze
  • Avoid close contact, less than six feet, with other individuals
  • Stay at home as much as possible and self isolate from other household members if  you feel unwell
  • DON’T touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean. Ideally, avoid touching your face as much as possible
  • Follow all mandatory and recommended actions requested by the Health Care and Governmental agencies
