Listen for the Whistle: The Soundtrack

It’s July 1948 and you have a front row seat to the end of the steam era. A thunderstorm bears down on a Midwestern railroad town and it’s business as usual as hotshot freight and passenger trains make the night come alive.

Using audio of restored steam locomotive no. 765 and the vintage whistles from long-scrapped locomotives, the sounds of historic American railroading roar back to life.

Hear the 765 throughout its career, a Norfolk & Western Y6B struggle on wet rail, the long approach of a Pennsylvania Railroad K-4, and the ghostly song of a Chesapeake & Ohio freight train as it makes its way through the night.

Enjoy original songs written by the 765’s crew and the sounds that inspired a generation to always LISTEN FOR THE WHISTLE.
